Billables and prebills

Review unbilled time and expenses, then generate prebills.

Billables lists approved time entries and expenses that have not yet been invoiced. Prebills group those items for review before you create final invoices.

Review billables

Review unbilled work before creating a prebill. Confirm that entries are approved, associated with the correct case and timekeeper, and coded correctly.

Open Billing → Billables.
Filter the list by case, timekeeper, or billing status.
Review the approved time entries and expenses returned by the filters.
Confirm that each selected item is approved and coded correctly.
Select the items to include on a prebill.

The billables list is the review point between time capture and draft billing. Use it to identify the approved work that is ready to move forward. If an item is not ready, leave it out of the prebill and resolve the issue according to your firm's billing process.

Generate prebills

A prebill groups approved unbilled time and related expenses before invoicing. Use prebills to review totals before creating final client bills.

Open Billing → Prebills.
Create a prebill from approved unbilled time, including related expenses as needed.
Review the prebill totals and included items.
Convert the reviewed prebill to an invoice when it is ready.

After you create the invoice, continue the billing process from Billing → Invoices. There you can generate a PDF, email the invoice, or export it as a LEDES file as needed.

Review before invoicing

Use the prebill review to check that the selected work is complete and appropriate for the intended bill. Pay particular attention to the case, timekeeper, approval state, and billing codes. Reviewing these details before conversion helps keep the invoice based on the intended approved items.

Deleting a prebill returns its associated time entries to Approved status so you can bill them again. Review the impact before deleting a prebill.
