Payments and statements
Record payments, retainers, and generate client statements.
Payments tracks money received against invoices and billing entities. Statements summarize client account activity for a billing entity and date range.
Record payments
Record receipts after an invoice has been issued or when your firm receives an entity-level payment. You can apply retainers where your firm uses trust or retainer accounting.
A payment against a specific invoice connects the receipt to that bill. An entity-level payment records money for the billing entity without selecting one invoice. Use the option that matches how your firm received and applies the payment.
Review invoice status
After recording a payment, check the related invoice. A fully paid invoice should show Paid. An invoice with some payment remaining should show Partial Payment. This check helps billing staff confirm that the payment was applied as intended.
Client statements
Statements provide a summary of client account activity for a selected period. Generate them for a billing entity and date range, then review the result before sending it to the client.
Use statements when a client needs an account-level view rather than a single invoice. The statement date range determines the period of activity included in the summary.
Review the billing entity, invoice selection, and date range before recording or sending billing information. Apply retainers only when they match your firm's trust or retainer accounting process.
